Simplifying the validation process for our DV SSL certificates Print

  • 0

Let’s face it: the validation process for SSL can be… difficult.
DV certificates are the most quick, simply, and affordable options. All the CA has to do is verify that the person receiving
the certificate actually owns the domain they wish to cover. Hey, you want an SSL for www.iwantanSSL.com? Well you
must prove to the CA (Certificate Authority) that you actually own that domain! How do you do this? One of two ways:

1 Email-based validation – The CA will just send an email with a confirmation link to either the WHO.IS registrant
address or one of these five pre-approved aliases:
a: admin@
b: administrator@
c: webmaster@
d: postmaster@
e: hostmater@

Why those addresses? Because the CA figures whoever has control of those aliases has control of the domain.
Once your customer responds to the email – BLAM – the certificate gets issued. Easy peasy.

OR
2 File-based authentication – This is definitely the way to go if you or your customer have direct access to their
server. All your customer needs to do is upload a file to his/her server that gets validated by the CA. Once the
CA confirms that the file is uploaded to their server, domain ownership has been proven and – BLAMO – the
certificate is issued.
If neither method is working – ugh! – Just contact our sales team and we can get it all sorted out for you. No worries!
